Weekend Reading

Here are some great reads from the last few days.

- For the last time, John Kerry is an idiot! He has now thrown a fellow verteran, someone he considered as HIS OWN RUNNING MATE under the bus in the name of politics. When it wasn't politically acceptable for McCain to stand up for Kerry he did. Nice to see Kerry forget his friends when he doesn't need them anymore. Even though Bush Term II has struggled, I am 100% happy this clown is not in office. To be clear this is not an endorsement of McCain but simply a criticism of Kerry.

- This could possibly be the most painful sports injury I have ever heard of. It makes me want to vomit.

- This is a great article on the rising price of gas. Are you enjoying your new flat screen tv? I know I'm not...

- Finally, I witnessed what was possibly the best tennis match of my lifetime on Sunday. Nadal is a beast and Federer is a true champion and a gentlemen. If only Golf could find someone to challenge Tiger Woods like Nadal has challenged Roger The Great.

Today's Headlines

Just a quick update this morning of some stories that caught my eye.

Braille Coins - The U.S. Mint has made the first U.S. coin with braille characters in honor of the 200th birthday of Luis Braille, the creator of the system that has allowed millions of blind to read.

Slow Internet - why would anyone not get broadband access? Seriously, it would be like still driving a Model T car or flying with the Wright Brothers. Perhaps this is just another example of "survival of the fittest", natural internet selection if you will.

So Long Seattle - Being from Cleveland I feel the city of Seattle's pain. When we lost the Browns it was like a part of this town died, like someone had amputated one of our legs. Rest assured Seattle. You have one of the richest people in the world as an owner (Steve Ballmer) who also happens to be stubborn as hell so you will get your team back. If it works anything like the Browns you will be better off because of it in the long run, just give it some time. A side note - Oklahoma City? Are you serious? I think this could be the worst home of a major league franchise other than Green Bay.

Brett - Say It Ain't So!

I live in Cleveland but I am a die hard Minnesota Vikings fan. That being said, I really respect Brett Favre and all that he has accomplished in his career BUT it is time for him to retire. He did that after the season ended...or did he? Please don't go the route of Michael Jordan, please just retire gracefully Brett!

Today In The News

"It's the economy stupid!" That will be a quote you hear as the election approaches. Everyone is feeling it and it has actually come to this - Starbucks is closing 600 stores, approximately 8.5% of their locations. Who would have thought that the people who could afford a $7 cup of coffee would actually feel the pinch of the economic slowdown?

The above is just another illustration of how the economy will be the deciding factor in this fall's election, not the war. A new poll out yesterday puts Obama and McCain in a dead heat...until the next poll comes out. The uncertainty of the election is doing nothing to help the economy, if one of them would only pull out to a distinguishable lead then maybe people would relax a little bit and start to spend some money.

Sports Stuff for Monday

- This is just what I needed to read tonight. PLEASE LeBron, don't leave! The city of Cleveland would be completely lost without you.

- I don't care how many times I read it, Tiger Woods is just a STUD! I can't believe I am saying that about a golfer but he can play with more pain than a lot of NFL players. Where are you now Tim Couch?

The Answer

I have told you all that I don't know who to vote for this Fall...well I do now!

U-S-A, U-S-A!

08/08/08 is the date, the Olympic Games are almost here! Many people take pot shots at the Olympics and don't enjoy them. They say it is a bunch of people playing sports people only care about once every four years, sports that are not "main stream". In my opinion those people have no idea what they are talking about! Throw aside the patriotism of the Olympic Games and the Olympics are still a true testament to core desire of athletes.

Look at people like Michael Phelps and Tyson Gay. These are two of the most dominant athletes of our time and the light shines on them once every four years...and they thrive on it. Yesterday Phelps set off on his quest to medal in NINE Olympic events. You read that right, NINE! His first step was also a World Record. Tyson Gay qualified for the Games by running the fastest 100 meter time in history, even though it was wind aided. This is going to be an exciting summer to be a sports fan and a proud American, I hope the casual sports fan will let themselves enjoy it.
